As the mysterious Amina begins her day, we realize there’s more to her actions than her just getting ready for work. This piece speaks to obsession and the need to confront challenging events in order to keep functioning.
“Waters” is a black and white movie that takes place entirely in one room, a beautiful bathroom. Amina enters the bathroom to get ready for work and she remembers it’s her father’s birthday. At that point she’s involuntarily driven to perform a purification ritual to rid her mind and body of painful memories.
In this piece full of contradictions, the audience is stuck in a pristine bathroom to watch a disturbed young woman struggle as she relives moments of the molestation while trying to hold on to her sanity.
